How We Started
Strong Angels Inc was never planned, but simply evolved over the years as many people came together to help those in need both here in Australia and in Bali.
The charity was founded by Susanne Hunter and started by helping Balinese children who had been sent to live in orphanages as a result of the Bali bombings in 2002. The children were sometimes relinquished by families because of the poverty that resulted from severe job losses.
After a trip to Bali in January 2004, she was heartbroken by what she saw. So on her return home to Gelorup she began selling cakes to her work colleagues to raise funds for her return trip 6 months later. $780 was raised for bedding, toiletries, stationary, toys and food supplies.

From here, the charity just grew through community support. We shifted to sponsoring children to allow them to leave the orphanage system to get an education and live with their families. The very essential and simple things that we take for granted are these childrens' wildest dreams.
Our Community
From the beginning, Strong Angels has been built off of the kindness of the community.

From the Bunbury region's generosity and donations, to our op-shop, to all of our sponsors Frank and Tirta who run our Hostel and care for the children.
​
What started as Frank picking up Susan in his taxi has now grown to this remarkable partnership.
